Terry,
Great stuff!! Can't wait to hear the response and your follow-up to it................
on randy's freeminds site my personal story: my life in jehovah's service appears.
it is sad that you publish information on jehovah's witnesses.. you even title it, my life in jehovah's service.. but you know nothing about what it means to be one of jehovah's witnesses.. .
so you should get your information from people, like me, who know.
Terry,
Great stuff!! Can't wait to hear the response and your follow-up to it................
for those not up-to-date on my situation ... .
i was disfellowshipped and i posted about it here.. i wrote an appeal letter, and wrote about it here.
so, i just got home from a weeks vacation, i was home for 3 hours.
Actually, while this is a rare occurrence, I've seen this happen a few times. The society definitely doesn't want to deal with any lawsuits, which for the most part they don't. That's why each and every congregation is run like its own corporate entity. But congrats on your appeal ruling!!
for the critic of so-called apostate sites i offer the following.
the taste of bitter fruit.
the watchtower bible and tract society is a publishing company with a purpose.
This post should be copied and framed by everyone coming to this sight. One of the best posts EVER. Terry, your gift for words needs a wider audience.
we always talk about the crazy j-dub fundy types, but i knew some cool jws (co, do, bethelites, pio) during my time.
this is kind of a "where are they now" post along with acknowledginig some jws who were cool and down-to-earth.
as with most "cool" and good people in the borg, most of them are either not jws anymore (burned out) or are not "serving" in responsible positions (funny how that works, isn't it).
I seem to vaguely remember the Gillis'. They were a nice couple..........
there are a few films that i really connect with that sum up my j-dub experiences........ .
shawshank redemption: if you've ever "served time" at bethel, you can't help but connect with this film.
institutionalization, mental persecution and "andy dufrene crossing through 500 yards of shit, came out clean on the other side.
Yeah, i can't believe I forgot about 1984.......that one's a keeper.

The Matrix (First one): Who couldn't relate to the choice that all of us as J-dubs at some point had to ponder: do I take the red pill or the blue pill (should I stay or should I go)?
Good Will Hunting: I connected with this one on the basis of me deciding whether I should attempt to reach my potential or wallow in the bureaucratic muck and waste the best years of my life. I'm Will headed out to California in search of a girl..........
Those are some of mine. What movies do you connect with that kind of capture the quandry of your J-dub years/experience?

Anyway, my list is:
Daniel Silva: DO who served in the Michigan area in the early 80s. Forward-thinking DO who actually knew Greek. Would make a great poster here on JWD. Gave some of most thought-provoking talks and treated people with dignity. Heard he left the DO work and barely attends meetings.
R.L. Jones: CO who served in Chicago, D.C., Michigan areas. Still in the work as far as I know. One "cool" cat. The first CO I ever saw to wear Armani suits. Always looked to pick you up and make you feel good about whatever effort you were putting forth. Once said that he could have been a DO had he kissed more "butt," but he couldn't stand to do that and a CO he continued to be.
Lyron Andrews: African American Bethelite who was somewhat prominent when he was there. Just a down-to-earth brother who always tried to uplift and encourage you when he sensed you were down. I recall him working with the Executive Office. Really injected a sense of humanity into the de-humanizing bethel experience. He eventually left the house and served in a NYC hall, before DA-ing himself.
Lenore Brown: DO who served all over - California, Michigan, Georgia. Really was attentive to youth. The first DO I observed to play pick-up basketball games with the brothers. Was comparitively young as a DO. Eventually got D-fed and settled into selling real estate in Georgia. Feel free to add on to this. It could be ANY JW you knew when you were trapped in the Matrix. I'll come back to this later...........
Frank DeMatteis: Long-serving bethelite elder who always had a kind word to say or a funny joke to tell to break up the monotony and the mood. Served at the farm and ended up getting d-fed. Heard he recently came back in.
hey ya'll, t was announced this morning at the breakfast table that there are two new members of the governing body.
they were formerly "helpers" or "given ones.
" anthony morris raised a family and then went into the traveling work.
ahhhh, Gene Smalley. Yes, I recall that self-righteous prick very well. He was the head librarian of the Writing Dept. when I was at the house and had a smug, albeit sheltered way about himself.
As for the 'Nethinim', it was my understanding that they include members of both the anointed and other-sheep who assist the FDS/GB with various matters. The anointed from that group often being looked at first as replacements to GB members who die off.

5 bucks a gallon for gas?
expert sees it in 2006 .
Whatever happened to the electric car? If gas hit $5 a gallon, I'd start to seriously protest something..........
hey y'all,.
i recently got this film on dvd and it is so on-point with its cynical look at religion and belief systems.
i laughed 'till i cried.
